EVO-STIK Polyurethane Wood Glue is a fast-setting, high-strength wood adhesive that dries to form a bond stronger than the wood itself.

It's ideal for bonding all types of wood with a quick-drying formulation that allows joints to be carefully handled in as little as 5 minutes.

This polyurethane wood adhesive is also suitable for hard, porous surfaces such as concrete, plaster and brick, as well as non-porous surfaces such as metals, foamed polystyrene, GRP and PVC.

Due to the excellent water resistance of EVO-STIK PU Wood Glue, it’s suitable for both interior and exterior use, providing a reliable bond that is long-lasting. Plus, once dry, it can also be sanded and painted.

Suitable materials: All wood types including softwood, hardwood, chipboard, plywood, and block wood.

Sizes: 500ml bottle or 310ml cartridge.

HOW TO USE

Please note: EVO-STIK Polyurethane Wood Glue must only be used when one of the surfaces to be bonded is porous.

PREPARATION

1. Surfaces must be clean and free from any loose material or contamination such as grease etc.

2. Non-porous surfaces should be abraded to give a good key and porous surfaces should be moistened with water.

APPLICATION

3. Apply thin beads to one of the surfaces and then carefully press the two together.

4. Lightly clamp the substrates to produce a thin bond line.

5. In good conditions, the bond can be lightly handled after 5 minutes. Full cure will be achieved in about 24hrs at 25 degrees Celsius. For full drying times, see the TDS.

HOW TO REMOVE

Removal of PU wood adhesive is extremely difficult even when it is uncured. It is advisable to protect any vulnerable surfaces.

Uncured adhesive: Carefully scrape up excess adhesive and then remove the remains using acetone. It will be almost impossible to remove the uncured adhesive from cloths and porous or rough surfaces.

Cured adhesive: This can only be removed mechanically. The best time is when it has just cured.

FAQS

PU wood adhesive is a moisture curing, single part, polyurethane resin adhesive. It's commonly used as a mounting glue to bond wood and other materials together.

Supplied as a thixotropic paste, this poly wood glue is perfect for applications where a non-drip formulation is beneficial, such as vertical or overhead bonding of mortise or tenon joints.

The glue's high-strength formula provides excellent water resistance and cures rapidly, meaning joints can, generally, be carefully handled after just 5 minutes!

EVO-STIK PU Wood Glue bonds most wood and many other rigid porous surfaces such as concrete, plaster and brick, as well as non-porous surfaces such as metals, foamed polystyrene, GRP and PVC. However, one of the surfaces being bonded must be porous.

EVO-STIK Polyurethane Wood Adhesive must only be used when one of the surfaces to be bonded is porous. Non-porous surfaces should be abraded to give a good key.

Cured adhesive can only be removed mechanically. The best time is when it has just cured. It is therefore advisable to protect any vulnerable surfaces before application.

Both PU wood glue and PVA wood glue are good options for bonding wood. To know which is the best wood glue for you, it’s important to look at the advantages and disadvantages of each.

PU wood glue

  • Pros: Extremely versatile, expands to fill joints, and provides ultra strong bonds on wood and other materials.
  • Cons: Needs moisture to cure, short 15-minute working time, and a more complex clean-up meaning extra care is required when applying.

PVA wood glue

  • Pros: Easy and clean to apply, very strong edge-to-edge bonds on wood, longer 30-minute working time.
  • Cons: More limited use – generally wood-to-wood bonding only.

So, both glues are good to have handy as they do different things!
